If there is a growing voice inside you, even hinting at a big change of direction, you might be a Golden Cage Creator. (Find out here) This course employs creative writing and Coaching Methodologies, Wellbeing and Positive Psychology Strategies to redirect you away from chasing the wrong goals - and it's a lot of fun.
Let's be honest - we've done it before and it's time to get off that train.
Discover if writing a novel is truly your path or if your unique voice shines elsewhere. This satirical 6-week course helps novice writers find their true creative calling.

"I want to write a book."
Ah, yes. The siren song of the literary world. Reverberating around writers’ groups as the ultimate solution to the human condition.
Like many well know quotes, language evolution and deliberate misdirection have conveniently changed the context entirely, by omission.
My favorite devaluing statement is, “Jack of all trades, master of none,” making one feel like their ability to tackle many challenges well is somehow a bad thing. The critically missing piece is, “….but oftentimes better than a master of one.”
An American journalist named Christopher Hitchens is globally misquoted.
“Everyone has a book inside them.”
“…..which is exactly where it should, in most cases, remain.”
Misguided motivations to write include resolution of financial woes, trauma dumping, a desire to be seen and heard and not always with helpful intention. The ‘work from anywhere’ mantra of total freedom if we can only tell our story well enough. Perhaps pick ourselves up a Netflix deal.
It calls to so many of us, whispering promises of fame, fortune, and intellectual superiority. You've heard it, haven't you? Maybe you've even started that manuscript, staring at a blank page, convinced that 80,000 words are just waiting to spill forth, if only inspiration would strike (and maybe if you had more coffee).
If only…….
But let's be brutally honest for a moment, shall we? Just because you can speak, doesn't mean you should sing opera. And just because you can write, doesn't mean your destiny lies within the sprawling, often soul-crushing, pages of a novel. Yet.
Enter: 'The Novice's Guide to Not Novel Writing.'
Course Introduction - Last 3 minutes behind the Paywall (Sorry!)
This isn't your grandma's cozy writing circle. This is a six-week, no-holds-barred, hilariously honest journey designed for every aspiring scribe who's ever mumbled, "Where do I even begin?" The answer, dear friend, might just be: "By figuring out why you're really here, and whether a novel is even what you should be writing."
Why Another Writing Course? Because Most Don't Dare to Ask the Hard Questions.
Most writing courses gently guide you through plot points, character arcs, and the intricacies of commas. And that's fine. But we go deeper.
We ask: What's your motivation? Is it ego, escape, or a genuine desire to communicate something only you can say? We challenge the delusion that a book (or a single fixed path to a destination) is the only valid form of writing, because, let's face it, your brilliant mind might be better suited to crafting a viral LinkedIn post, a searing political op-ed, a groundbreaking video game script, or the most compelling apology note ever written.
This course brings together my own decades of writing experience, practical coaching expertise, insights from positive psychology to keep you resilient, and a no-nonsense business background that cuts straight to what works. The result? Something engaging, effective, and genuinely fun. Because if it's not fun, why are you even doing it?
We believe that imagination is a muscle, and right now, yours might be doing push-ups with a feather. We'll give it a vigorous workout, forcing you to think beyond the obvious, beyond the clichés, and into the truly surprising. You'll sharpen your observation skills, dissect dialogue, and learn to wield language with precision – not just for a novel, but for any written communication.
The Payoff: Beyond the Novel, Towards Your True Creative Power
So, what's in it for you, brave adventurer? The payoff for investing your time and a modest fee in 'The Novice's Guide to Not Novel Writing' is profound, practical, and frankly, a bit liberating:
Crystal-Clear Purpose: You'll uncover your true writing motivations, stripped bare of romanticized notions. This clarity saves you countless hours of banging your head against a manuscript that was never meant to be.
Unleashed Imagination: You'll learn to actively cultivate your creativity, pushing past the predictable and discovering a wellspring of fresh, surprising ideas. No more waiting for "inspiration" like some mythical creature.
Honed Practical Skills: You'll master essential literary tools – clarity, conciseness, observation, voice, and the power of subtext – making you a more effective and compelling communicator in any arena.
Bulletproof Confidence: You'll gain a thicker skin for feedback and a discerning ear for what truly helps your writing, rather than sending your self-esteem spiraling.
Identify Your True Calling: This is the big one. You'll discover that your unique linguistic talents might lie in areas you never considered. You'll leave with a concrete understanding of where your specific strengths shine brightest, whether that's crafting compelling marketing copy, designing intricate game narratives, writing razor-sharp comedy, or even just mastering the art of the perfectly worded email.
Liberation from the "Novel" Pressure: The ultimate payoff is the freedom to pursue the writing that genuinely excites and fulfils you, unburdened by the societal expectation that "a book" is the only valid measure of a writer. You'll realize your creativity is boundless, and your value as a wordsmith extends far beyond traditional publishing.
Join a Community: You'll connect with other like-minded (and possibly equally exasperated) novices in a safe, supportive, and hilariously honest environment.
Stop procrastinating on that novel you probably shouldn't be writing. Start investing in the skills and self-awareness that will truly propel your creative life forward.
